TYRES DETAINED AT HONG KONG
We enclose copy of a letter which we addressed to the Under Becretary of State, Foreign Office, on the 29th November, and of the enclosures men- tioned therein, also a copy of the reply received by us from the Foreign office, dated December 24th.
We have to-day heard from Messrs A.Michelin et Cie, Clermont Ferrand, the exporters of the goods, that they have obtained from the Oustons Authorities at Marseilles, a certificate to the effect that the shipment was regularly authorised by them, they being satisfied, of course, that the goods were actually destined to Messrs A„Michelin et Cie's clients in Manilla, and this certificate has been forwarded to the Nippon Yusen Kaisha at Hong Kong, in order that they might present it to the British Authorities there.
Our friends in France have so far not received any further news of the shipment, and they are now communicating in the matter with the French Consul at Hong Kong.
In order to facilitate the release of the goods, if this has not al- ready been affected, we shall be obliged if you will kindly make a brief telegraphic enquiry, at our expense, in accordance with the suggestion con- tained in the latter from the Foreign Office.
